Beef Pilau

1 lb. round steak, cubed
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. butter
1 cup quick cooking rice
1 can (20 oz.) tomatoes
1 can (20 oz.) red kidney beans
1 can beef consomme
1 tsp. chili powder
¼ tsp. oregano

Brown steak and onion with salt in butter in skillet. Alternate layers of beef mixture, rice, tomatoes and beans in 2 quart casserole until all ingredients are used. Combine remaining ingredients in bowl; mix well. Pour over layers. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
