Spiced Devil’s Food Cake

1 cup margarine, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 cups flour
¼ cup baking cocoa
1 tsp. Baking powder
1 tsp. Baking soda
1 tsp. Cinnamon
½ tsp. Nutmeg
¼ tsp. Cloves
1 cup buttermilk

In a mixing bowl, cream margarine and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients; add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Pour into two greased and floured 9 inch cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until cakes test done. Cool.

Mocha Frosting

3-¾ cups (1 lb.) powdered sugar
¼ cup baking cocoa
6 tbsp. Strong coffee
6 tbsp. Margarine, softened
1 tsp. Vanilla
whole almonds, optional

Combine first five ingredients until smooth. Frost one cake layer; top with second layer and frost entire cake. Garnish with almonds if desired.
